The
Oregon Scientific History
|

|
Oregon
Scientific was established in 1989 as an entrepreneurial start up in Portland, Oregon. A
place known for its high technology capabilities and its pioneering spirit. The company's
objective was to create and market products providing access to personal information
electronically. The first concept developed by the Oregon Scientific's team was a
state-of-art personal information manager - Axxess. (Utilizing the emerging touch screen
technology, the product offered the best technical solution to personal users but the
price was considered too high by consumers entering this rapidly forming new segment.)
Oregon Scientific sought lower-cost but high quality manufacturing in the Pacific Rim and
found a partner in Integrated Display Technology. IDT, a leader in Liquid Crystal Display
technology and Oregon Scientific formed a joint venture to redevelop and re-launch the
Axxess product. At the same time Oregon Scientific began a sales and marketing campaign of
several of IDT's time keeping and weather related products which had then a limited market
presence in the USA. |
Although
Axxess never found the success that the original engineers and marketers of Oregon
Scientific had hoped, the company began to build a solid niche with unique products
directed toward the technology hungry" early-adopters."
Working with companies like The Sharper Image, Hammacher Schlemmer, Neiman
Marcus and other specialty stores around the country Oregon Scientific began to develop a
loyal following of customers and retail clients. Today Oregon Scientific's product mix is
grounded in a unique mix of value, functionality and superb design.
Throughout the next few years Oregon Scientific and IDT began to cooperate more closely on
development and in 1997 Oregon Scientific became a wholly owned subsidiary of IDT. As IDT
established in the early 90's a network of Sales & Marketing Subsidiaries in all key
European markets, it became clear that the Oregon Scientific brand had a global potential.
In 1994, IDT launched its Oregon Scientific line of products across Europe and later in
Japan.
Never losing site of its entrepreneurial roots, Oregon Scientific continued to develop a
stream of innovating products. The first hand held All Hazards/Weather Radio with
automatic emergency activation the first precisely accurate ExactSet alarm clock
that synchronizes itself to many of the world greatest timepieces - like the U.S. Atomic
Clock the first Nightfinder travel alarm with a patented automatic night light and the
first personal desktop weather forecasting instrument that provides an automatic graphical
view to your local weather.
Innovations like these define Oregon Scientific as one of the leading designers and
worldwide marketers of award-winning personal electronics in the consumer electronics
industry.
Exciting, leading-edge technology coupled with fluid design is the hallmark of every
Oregon Scientific product. Offering multiple families of products-weather
forecasting/environmental monitoring, timekeeping, electronic information, electronic
toys/games and lifestyle products. All featuring slate-of-the-art liquid crystal display
(LCD) technology, for use at home, in business, while travelling and during recreational
time. |
